Message in a Bottle
Message
In A Bottle is a multi-meter interpretation of the Police tune. The
Sting original provides core material for an extended introduction,
interlude, and solo section. Much of the melody is in 7/8. The drum
solo features a Bach G Major 'Cello Prelude interpretation of the
original Sting guitar part, but in such extended meters as 11 and 13.
This is an excerpt from the 2002 cd entitled Squashua.

cd entitled Squashua.

FreeMickVTJ11Mar02 Mick Goodrick, Vardan Ovsepian, Take Toriyama, and Joshua Davis, playing a Berklee College of Music faculty recital on March 11, 2002. Mick was very generous with playing and sharing his music over many years of teaching at Berklee together. He has been a life-changing teacher and inspiration to so many. We are all grateful. Vaguely Asian, a Steve Swallow piece on Noisy Old Men, is quoted here.

Berklee eartraining guru and Mick Goodrick publisher Mitch Haupers recorded this piece as part project of free improvisation that supported his newly developed free ensemble teaching. This selection features Bob Weiner, Berklee's Indian classical and Brazilian Samba specialist.Fragile
This Sting cover is a favorite for airplay. Vardan Ovsepian is featured as he shifts through the melody in multiple keys. The varied keys were a spontaneous and therefore unannounced decision during recording. Listen to the bassist scramble to catch the changed key as the piece begins. This is an alternate take from the 2002 cd entitled Squashua.
